Note: FUNERAL RITES FOR CRASH VICTIMS AT SPEARMAN FUNERAL RITES FOR CRASH VICTIMS AT SPEARMAN A Spearman couple, William J. McBROOM, 46, and his wife, Lillie, 44, died last Wednesday night at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo of injuries suffered when their car was struck and crushed by a heavily-loaded oilfield truck at the intersection of US 83 and State Highway 33 south of Canadian Tuesday afternoon of last week. Funeral services were held for the McBrooms at the First Assembly of God Church in Spear man Saturday. Their 14-year old son, Bill, was still hospitalized at Amarillo with sever head injuries. Erbin Joe SIELER, 24, of Billings, Montana, driver of the heavily-loaded semi which was hauling oilfield equipment, was charged in Canadian with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, and was released under $5,000 bond on each count. Justice of the Peace Frankie Hill set Bond after a hearing Thursday. The McBROOM sedan, a late-model Ford, was southbound on US Highway 83, a four-lane divided highway, when it was struck in the intersection with State highway 33 by the truck owned by Getter Trucking Company of Billings. The truck hit the McBroom car on the right front, carrying it off the highway and into the median where the cab of the truck rolled over onto the car, crushing it. The McBrooms were rescued from the crashed vehicle by the emergency unit of the Canadian Volunteer Fire Department, and brought to Hemphill County Hospital by local ambulances before being transferred to the emergency center at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo. The truck driver was arrested after being treated for shock at the hospital here. The McBrooms are survived by four daughters in addition to son, Bill, and by two grandchildren, all of Spearman. |
